HERBS & CATTLE TREATMENT

(AS COLLECTED FROM VILLAGE HERDSMEN OF KANDHMAL & GANJAM DISTRICTS OF ODISHA STATE, INDIA)

FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE :- (Fatua in Odiya)

SYMPTOMS :-

It is a Communicable disease. There is a wound at hoof [ଗାଈର ଖୁରା (gā’ira khurā)] joints of cattle affected with maggots [ଶୁଣ୍ଡିପୋକ (shunḍipoka)]. Actually, initially there is fever & shivering of cattle for 2-3 days, Anorexia prevails. Afterwards wounds at hoof [ଗାଈର ଖୁରା (gā’ira khurā)] joint occurs often affected with maggots [ଶୁଣ୍ଡିପୋକ (shunḍipoka)]. The blisters at udder, nose & mouth are also common. Ropy discharge from nose & mouth is common. Cattle unable to walk & blood from hoofs (ଗାଈର ଖୁରା (gā’ira khurā)) is frequently seen.

PREPARATION OF MEDICINE & IT’S APPLICATION

Water is boiled with neem leaves. Then the warm (Not Hot) neem leave boiled water is applied to the joints of foot & washed properly.
Then again, apply baking soda powder to the washed joints & washed again with warm water.
Then copper sulphate powder (2-3 g.m) is applied to the joints.
This practice is carried out every day till recovery.

Potassium Carbonate (1 part), Salt (2 Parts) and Bhu-nimba dried powder (2 Parts), Jaggery (6 Parts)
are mixed with water & fed to cattle daily.

Catechu (5 gms), Areca nut powder (2 nuts), Camphor (1 piece), dried fern leave powder (5-6 gms),
are mixed in coconut oil perfectly. Now this ointment is applied to the wounds of cattle foot affected
with Foot & Mouth Disease.

Sulphur powder and dried & powdered leaves of fern plant in equal proportions are mixed with mustard oil
& then applied to the wounds of foot of cattle affected with foot and mouth disease.

Alum powder, catechu, sap of neem leaves, warm water out of boiled bark of common sal tree,
sap of NUX-VOMICA leaves, warm water out of boiled bark of Indian black berry tree are mixed
in equal proportions & the ointment made out of this mixture is applied to the wounds of
FMD affected cattle foot.
